City of copperThe history of Banská Bystrica is inextricably linked with the mining of precious metals - silver and copper. Thanks to its mineral wealth, the importance of the settlement of Bystrica grew rapidly in the past and in 1255 King Belo IV of Hungary granted it extensive privileges and elevated it to the status of a town. The golden era in the history of Banská Bystrica was the period of the 15th and 16th centuries, when the successful Thurz-Fugger copper mining company operated here.
High Tatras
Slovakian AlpsThe High Tatras are the smallest mountains in the world and are one of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. Bojnice
The gem of Bojnice is the ”fairy-tale” Bojnický zámok Castle, one of the most visited and most beautiful castles not only in Slovakia, but also in central Europe. The Castle stands on a large travertine monticule on the site of medieval castle from the 11th century. In the past, the most famous Hungarian noble families owned it and the last of them was the family of Pálfi. The typical silhouette of the romantic image of medieval castle is enhanced by steep roofs of the palace, chapel and towers.
